Analysis of Pedestrians’ Road Crossing Behavior, in Social Groups

نویسندگان

چکیده

A significant percentage of pedestrians walk in social groups (friends, families, or acquaintances who together). Although patterns generated by interactions among group members have been shown to affect crowd dynamics, studies on the effect at different crossing phases under low pedestrian density are limited. This study aims comprehensively examine influence size and sex composition pedestrians’ behaviors when walking alone with friends before, during, after road crossing. For this, experiences were carried out controlled small (varying composition) three unsignalized crosswalks density. The average speed distance between young six segments trajectories (two each phase), extracted from video recordings, analyzed linear mixed models. Results show that reduce their approaching curb, they accelerate while crosswalk, again reach other side. In all phases, was lower than single pedestrians, females’ walked slower males, except during crossing, where no sex-related differences found. On contrary, before increased decreased second segment crosswalk. smallest observed female dyads. These findings relevant implications for research behavior, helping better understand complexity dynamics improve safety.

Dynamic characteristics of traffic flow with consideration of pedestrians’ road-crossing behavior

Pedestrians' road-crossing behavior can often interrupt traffic flow and cause vehicles queueing. In this paper, we propose some moving rules for modeling the interaction of vehicles and pedestrians. The modified visual angle car-following model is presented for the movement of vehicles with consideration of the lateral effect of waiting pedestrians. The pedestrians' behavior is summarized as c...

The effect of conformity tendency on pedestrians' road-crossing intentions in China: an application of the theory of planned behavior.

This paper presents a survey investigating the effects of age, gender and conformity tendency on Chinese pedestrians' intention to cross the road in potentially dangerous situations. A sample of 426 respondents completed a demographic questionnaire, a scale measuring their tendency towards social conformity, and a questionnaire based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB). This questionnaire m...

Study of the Safe Behavior in Road Crossing Using the Theory of Planned Behavior among Middle School Students

Background Given that school-age students, as active road users, are more vulnerable to injury compared with other pedestrians, a large number of them, following an injury, may either fail to go to school at least for a short time or even suffer from disabilities for the rest of their lives. The aim of this study was to determine safe behavior in road crossing using the theory of planned behavi...

Investigating the impact of attentional declines on road- crossing strategies of older pedestrians

The main reason for older pedestrians for being involved in accidents is related to attentional deficits. The aim of the current research is to investigate the link between attention and road crossing strategies of older persons. Two group discussions were carried out to investigate what types of crossing locations are perceived as dangerous. Additionally, an observation interview was conducted...

Predicting adolescent pedestrians' road-crossing intentions: an application and extension of the Theory of Planned Behaviour.

The present paper reports an application of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to the prediction of road-crossing intentions among adolescents. In addition, the sufficiency of the TPB was assessed by examining the additional predictive utility of moral norms, anticipated affect and self-identity. A sample of 1833 adolescents completed a questionnaire containing a scenario depicting a potenti...
